“Mammography carts” seek to increase early detection and treatment of breast cancer among women in socially vulnerable situations

Despite being widespread, about 66,280 new cases are diagnosed in Brazil each year, according to National Cancer Institute (Inca) -, the disease generally has a good prognosis if detected and treated early.
According to Datasus data organized by the Oncoguia Institute, about 1.5 million mammograms were performed in 2022. Women between the ages of 35 and 49 or older than 70 can also be seen, as long as they also submit a medical request for the examination.

The action is a Hospital do Amor initiative supported by the Avon Institute. The carts have specialized professionals and SUS driving, so that women can keep their exams up to date. Those who have alterations in their mammograms can count on the guidance of the teams of the Protea Institute and the Santa Marcelina Hospital.

Savegnago Supermercados and Hospital de Amor de Barretos have joined forces to provide and facilitate the execution of examinations focused on the prevention and early detection of breast cancer. The entity’s mobile units have already passed through Limeira, Rio Claro and Araraquara.
Now it will be Franca and Ribeirão Preto’s turn to receive the trucks. Women between the ages of 40 and 69 can have free consultations, mammography exams and advice on breast cancer prevention. In addition, municipalities will receive a minibus focused on oral cancer prevention.
