Elephant or bull? Try to unravel the world’s oldest optical illusion – not everyone can do it

The amazing Airashtevara Temple in South India is a well-preserved monument of architecture. It is under UNESCO protection as a cultural heritage site, and Hindus themselves revere it as a sacred complex of buildings built by the legendary Emperor Cholu on the site of a true miracle.

The legend says that King Yama prayed at this place to Shiva and dived into the waters of the Kaveri River, and thus he was able to recover from a serious illness – his body turned white again.

The name of the building is associated with Airavata – one of the eight “original” elephants from the “egg of the world”. Therefore, there are so many elephants in the intricate details of the temple!
