What Disney’s First Positive Heroine Looks Like – She Makes Viewers Cry

Disney is often criticized for promoting unnatural beauty standards. Today, after 85 years of existence, the company has released a cartoon with a complete main character – in the form of… a ballerina!

It is difficult to imagine modern culture without the magical world of Disney, on whose cartoons several generations of children grew up. Certainly, in recent years, the film society has been increasingly criticized for various reasons: either for imposing unhealthy relationship scenarios, or because of the inflated standards of beauty to which the drawn heroines correspond – but not the girls in real life. .

Of course, in the “Disney” world you can meet characters of all shapes and sizes. But impossible beauties are always shown in the main roles.

This fall, for the first time in its 85-year history, Disney released an animated short featuring a girl in a body. Of course, the body-positive heroine did not become a princess. But we gave her the role of… ballerina!

The short film Reflect tells the story of a plus size ballerina “who struggles with her own reflection, overcoming doubt and fear and realizing her inner strength and grace”.

The first viewers were delighted with the cartoon. And some even recognized themselves in the heroine – and regretted that in their youth there were no such honest and motivating stories.

“I was emotionally torn by this cartoon. I experienced it myself. I studied ballet, and by the start of puberty I had grown considerably in height and became the tallest girl of the class, ”shares a girl on social networks.
