Covid-19: Fiocruz records rise in cases in four states

São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul and Amazonas had an increase in the number of positive tests; the numbers may still have expired

RIO – Four states in the country have shown an increase in cases of COVID-19 last week, according to the new InfoGripe bulletin, released this Thursday 11, by Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz)🇧🇷 According to the survey, Amazon🇧🇷 Rio de Janeiro🇧🇷 Rio Grande do Sul And St. Paul increases reported in cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), confirmed by covid-19. The forecast is that this growth will be even greater in the coming days, including in other states.

“As the lab data takes longer to enter the system, the number of cases over the past few weeks is expected to be higher than seen in this update (from the bulletin), and could even increase the number of states in such a situation, “explains researcher Marcelo Gomes, coordinator of InfoGripe.

According to Gomes, the hypothesis of a covid-19 seasonality with two annual peaks becomes more likely if the scenario in some states results in another cycle of expressive growth. “Unlike influenza and other respiratory viruses that typically peak annually, covid-19 may be heading towards a reality where we have to live with two moments of increased circulation,” she assesses.

In Rio, the Municipal Health Department (Sms) warns of “a significant increase in cases of flu syndrome” and positive test results for covid-19. A case of the omicron sub-variant BQ.1 has already been identified in the city. Due to the increase in the number of cases, SMS has strengthened the recommendation to complete the vaccination schedule. In the city, only 59% of the population took the booster dose.

According to Fiocruz, it is not yet possible to state that the growth in the number of SARS cases is related to the new sublines of the virus identified in the country.

At the beginning of the week, São Paulo recorded the first death linked to the sub-variant BQ.1.
