The coach reveals how some simple attitudes can harm your development in the gym
the wish of gain muscle mass it is usually common among people, especially for those who engage in some type of physical activity. The goal, more often than not, tends to be aesthetic. But, in addition, having a good volume of lean mass also promotes overall health, as healthy muscles can release various beneficial substances for the body.
But the big problem is that gaining muscle mass is usually not that simple and many people end up giving up in the middle of the process. To prevent this from happening, with the help of your coach and sports consultant, Leander Twin, we separate five mistakes that hinder your muscle development in the gym. Watch:
5 mistakes of gaining muscle mass
1. Do not warm up or warm up badly
“I see a lot of people doing a warmup just by swinging their arms or something. It doesn’t work. To get the right warmup you have to have intensity, so to warm up for the chest workout you can start with a flat bench press with more or less 50% of the load you would have used to go to failure in a hypertrophy workout and do about 15 or 20 moves. And yes, that’s a lot of load and a lot of reps, just so you can warm up, release synovial fluid and get the blood flowing to the muscles,” says Twin.
2. Forget about weaknesses
“I see a lot of my students concerned about increasing muscle volume and that’s fine. But a lot of people forget that not everything big is beautiful. So, always focus on weak muscles,” she says.
3. Weak training or too lazy
“You can train hard with little weight. How? You always have to bring your training to failure. If you make a slower movement, you will put less load, but this doesn’t seem to be very important for hypertrophy,” explains the specialist.
4. Do not use training techniques
“I see some people who just go to the gym, do exercises, and don’t enhance their training with a rest break, reduced set, GVT, FST, etc. Remember there are ways you can’t spend too much time in the gym and increase the intensity of your workouts significantly” emphasizes the trainer.
5. Ignore minor pains
“Little pains happen, however, people ignore them. The problem is that they disappear during training due to warming up the body but they are still there. With heavy training, we can hurt ourselves a lot and have to stay away from training. So, don’t ignore these little pains,” concludes Twin.
