The plastic surgeon explains what are the most common mistakes made by patients
The number of people choosing to have aesthetic procedures has grown in recent years. According to data from the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery, on average more than 1.5 million cosmetic procedures are performed in Brazil each year. However, according to plastic surgeon Dr. Beatriz Lassance, a full member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery, most patients who seek rejuvenation techniques have the wrong idea of what they are capable of doing.
“The misunderstandings already begin with the word rejuvenate, which is debatable. The aging process is continuous and progressive. What the procedures can do is only improve some signs,” the doctor points out.
To help correct conceptions related to facial rejuvenation, the specialist points out five most common mistakes of those seeking these procedures. Watch!
1. wait for the right moment
Contrary to what many believe, there is no right time to start realizing aesthetic procedures and plastic surgery procedures. The best time is when you feel uncomfortable with the signs of aging or any changes on your face. “Sometimes, waiting too long to have a procedure done is actually worse, because the older we get, the more aggressive the treatments will need to be to get good results — results that, more often than not, won’t be as good as before the procedure was done.” sooner,” warns the doctor.
Two. Believing that procedures have a quick effect
It is very common for people to seek out procedures to rejuvenate themselves believing they will leave the office nearly unrecognizable. However, there are no techniques that rapidly rejuvenate your face in one sitting, as it is impossible to reverse all the aging damage done over the years at once.
“The ideal, therefore, is to talk to your doctor to check the possibility of combination of several procedures which, performed in a certain sequence and for a certain period of time, will improve the expected results,” recommends the surgeon.
3. Suppose all wrinkles will be removed
More often than not, patients seeking aesthetic procedures want comprehensive treatment of the signs of aging, such as wrinkles and sagging. However, depending on the state of the face, it is practically impossible to completely remove wrinkles and sagging.
What the surgeon seeks, therefore, is to treat the tired or sad appearance of the face, by easing, for example, more pronounced wrinkles. “Actually, leaving some wrinkles and expression lines is also healthy, as the final result is less artificial and exaggerated, leaving the face with a more natural air,” underlines the specialist.

4. Finding out that the procedure lasts forever
One of the most common mistakes among patients is to think that procedures are maintenance-free. “Patients who seek out aesthetic procedures to rejuvenate their face tend to believe that the results will last for the rest of their lives, which is not entirely true, as most aesthetic procedures, especially the application of fillers and toxin botulinum, lose their effect over time, requiring a new session to maintain the results”, explains the specialist.
According to her, adopt daily skin care it is essential for the techniques to have a good result. “Furthermore, continuous care of the skin and body is also essential for good ageing. For example, after laser treatments, if there is no protection with sunscreens or daily skin hydration, the result will be lost, with possible worsening of the effects of the treatment,” he explains.
5. Consider that aging will be stopped with the technique
Even when the procedure performed is plastic surgery, which tends to provide a more permanent solution to the discomfort, the effects are not permanent. This is because no technique is able to completely stop skin aging.
“The most that aesthetic treatments can do is reverse this process in a few years. That is, even after the procedure or plastic surgeryit is important that you continue to take care of your skin on a daily basis to delay the reappearance of the alterations treated”, concludes Dr. Beatriz Lassance.
