Cleaning assistant Renata Pereira was waiting for the wagon to arrive at Pinheiros station without the mask. At the bus stop on Avenida Angélica, four people were waiting at the bus stop and all of them were already wearing a mask before boarding the bus. One of them, day laborer Rita Nogueira, said she never stopped wearing a mask, even after her release. “My mother and brother died of covid”.

In a note, the Metropolitan Transport Secretariat specified that “agents and inspectors of the operating companies guide the passengers, who are also informed through sound alerts, TV, social networks, indicator signs on the buses, panels in the stations and on the carriages” .

The secretariat also reported that “passengers without a mask are approached right at the entrance to the stations and terminals by inspectors, who ask to wear the accessory before entering the system. company. The correct use of the mask is required and, in case of refusal, the passenger is removed from the system”.

The STM and the State Government believe it is essential that the population is fully immunized to ensure greater protection against coronavirus and reiterate that the only way to mitigate the effects of the virus is to ensure immunization with doses available in all health facilities in the state.

SPTrans, head of the capital’s bus system, said the teams on the ground are monitoring compliance with the measures and “if irregularities are found, the responsible company will be fined according to the terms of the concession agreement”.

“All companies have been informed, with a circular, of the start of the mandatory use of masks inside municipal public transport buses, starting this Saturday 26. The document also underlines the need to identify vehicles with stickers which inform that boarding will only be allowed with the use of a mask.The concessionary companies have the obligation to guide drivers and collectors correctly.
