How to spend the New Year without alcohol: tips to relax

Suppose this New Year’s Eve you decide to go without alcohol.

It does not matter why – maybe the gastroenterologist insists on it, but it is possible that you have set foot on the way austerities to fulfill your deepest desire. Another thing is important – to do without the usual way of cheering up is not so easy.

It is believed that New Year’s holidays are happy days filled with communication with loved ones, relaxation and entertainment. But not everything in life is so cheerful: at the end of December, we rush to the shops in search of gifts, make final reports, and in the meantime organize general cleaning, decorate the Christmas tree and put up a menu and a list of products needed for it.

No wonder that on December 31st we look more like oppressed horses than the symbol of 2023 is the fire horsefull of energy. The hand itself reaches out for a drink – after all, this is a great way to get rid of stress.

We all know that alcohol can harm long-term health. But one more thing must be admitted – he can not only ruin it, but also a week off. Hangover, insomnia, headache, lethargy, bad mood in the morning – there are dozens of reasons why you should do without alcohol on New Year’s Eve and the following holidays.

But how to not let go and have a good time? Author Hilary Sheinbaum, who wrote an entire book describing her first month of sobriety (followed by years without alcohol), knows she can help!

Do you drink alcohol?

Yes it happens

Never

Life hack #1: think about tomorrow

Drinking is the norm for parties, late dinners, and endless late-night conversations, but after that comes hangovers. You lose the whole day the next day – you spend most of it in bed and not always in a good mood. Think about what you want to do the next day. Maybe see some other friends again? To go to the ice rink ? Want to try the same recipe that there wasn’t enough time for on weekdays? Make a plan, offer it to others – the opportunity to implement it will be an excellent motivation not to drink.

Life hack #2: try non-alcoholic options

There are now many types of non-alcoholic beer, wine and even spirits to suit all tastes. You can drink ready-made, you can mix (and not shake!) a cocktail – the familiar taste will help you cope with the desire to take a sip of another liquor. Other alternatives will also do, like your favorite tea or cocoa with marshmallows, a champion relaxation aid.

Life hack #3: keep your mind and hands busy

Let’s face it – very often we drink out of boredom, because alcohol makes communication interesting even with the most boring interlocutor. Think about what you can do with yourself. Maybe it’s worth giving owners a new board game that everyone can play? Or just help set the table and clean it? Find a few topics to talk to and mentally make a list of interlocutors – who you want to talk to and what exactly to discuss.

Life hack #4: call a friend

And, finally, that if you find yourself in a company where there is nothing to do, you can always talk to other people. So just call the ones you love and love to talk to and you’ll have a great time anywhere without any doping.
