How much you need to save to go to the 2026 World Cup

The 2022 World Cup is over, but many fans are already thinking about the 2026 World Cup. It will take place in three countries ― United States, Mexico and Canada ―, which makes the trip extremely attractive for Brazilians, especially for the tourism potential.

But how much does it cost to go to the 2026 World Cup? How much do you need to save already thinking about this trip? THE Sum Investments I already did this study based on the amounts spent in Qatar and believe me it won’t be very cheap, no.

It all starts with good planning.

The main items to consider are tickets, accommodation, food and tickets and all are likely to vary greatly over the next four years. Therefore, careful planning is essential to avoid headaches.

Flight ticket

A flight from São Paulo to the United States (considering the country as the main travel destination) costs an average of R$ 3,250.00, with some variations. Consider at least BRL 6,500.00 for airline tickets.

Tickets

Qatar had the most expensive box office in cup history, with a 40% increase over the Russian Cup ticket price, in 2018. For comparison purposes, consider the following amounts charged for tickets in Qatar:

  • • Initial entry: BRL 1,606.00 – BRL 3,285.00
  • • Group stage: BRL 365.00 – BRL 1,168.00
  • • Octaves: BRL 511.00 – BRL 1,460.00
  • • Wednesday: BRL 1,095.00 – BRL 2,263.00
  • • Semifinal: BRL 1,898.00 – BRL 5,080.80
  • • Final: BRL 3,200 – BRL 8,540

accommodation

Here you have to consider at least 15 days for the Cup ― and maybe add more for tourism. Taking into account the average practiced in American hotels at the end of 2022, consider daily rates between US$100 and US$150.

Obviously here the variation is very wide, as the accommodation can be done in B&B (low cost stays), AirBNB, very cheap motels and hotels.

food

Here the variations are huge, as it will depend a lot on the type of food and the region where you will be staying. Consider, however, an average of US$20 per meal, which would be at least R$4,800 in meals alone for 15 days.

total values

Considering the average total values, you would spend at least BRL 25,000 for 15 days for the 2026 Cup, in current dollar values, which can vary a lot over four years.

This would mean saving at least BRL 600.00 per month over four years to meet the minimum amount for Worlds 2026. It’s your best bet to guarantee your trip to Worlds 2026 without fear.
