Over the course of 15 years, he created a “Batman Science” after winning a series of family health battles.
the arrival of Batman that day had been impressive. He entered the room, kicking the door down. There were those who got scared and asked for security to be tightened, but there were also those who had a twinkle in their eye again after several months of deep depression. He was a 4-year-old boy whose enemy was a cancer that had lost the will to fight. But then the boy saw that towering hero before him. “Mom, you called Batman!” vibrated the boy.
The story does not take place in Gotham City. It happened in a ward intended to treat children with cancer in a hospital in Criciúma, Santa Catarina. It was 15 years ago, the first time the physical educator and lecturer Christian Zanettanow 43, he had been hurriedly called by a desperate mother.
Zanetta was already doing her social work while Batman visited the children in the hospital. Officially, this was not allowed. She has only worn her clothes-not the costume-already in the institution. “It’s a 23 kilogram suit of armor, with a thermal sensation of 50 degrees, and it takes 40 minutes to put on,” she explains.
Invited to leave from security, the next day Zanetta receives a phone call. She was the head of the Oncology sector, who revealed that she already knows the legend of Batman in the children’s sector. She said she knew they invariably got better. Today Zanetta makes an average of two visits a month to institutions.
Social work, he admits, is difficult. “I suffer from dehydration a lot. It affects my kidneys a lot. I’ve had a lot of problems with kidney stones,” she lists. “Because I was talking to the kids on my knees and the clothes were too heavy, I also ended up developing a back problem.”
This devotion began in Cristiano’s childhood, when a fire in his house almost became a tragedy. He was only 6 years old and was rescued, together with his brothers, by the firefighters.
The trauma remained, which was corrected thanks to the action of a psychologist. “He starts using the image of Batman as an overcoming. An imaginary figure, portraying a person who has no power, who uses armor and a utility belt to help others.”

As an adult, he watched his father undergo harsh treatment for more than one cancer. At the same time, his daughter, still a baby, nearly suffocated to death. The two survived, and she continued to dedicate her life to helping children deal with their father’s battles.
Book
In these 15 years, Cristiano Zanetta has developed a “Batman Science”, which he now describes in a book on the subject. And, a decade and a half after breaking down a door to help that child in need, he is now a guest member of the Oncological Sector of the São José de Criciúma Hospital.
