Exercise routine with medical follow-up is essential
Chronic non-communicable diseases account for seven of the top 10 causes of death worldwide. Illnesses such as high cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes account for 73.9% of deaths worldwide and more than 50% of deaths in Brazil. This is where physical activity comes into play, which helps in the control of chronic disease.
Example of physical activity in this fight
Bernardo Tavares, a 33-year-old bank employee, has incorporated bodybuilding and functional training into his daily routine in order to no longer be a “number”. Bernardo saw that the test results were skewed during the scrutiny, even with light runs. The triglyceride rate was at 450 mg/dL when the joint is below 150 mg/dL.
“In seven months of practicing regular physical activity, my exams have normalized. I also have more energy, I sleep and wake up better. If I didn’t fit exercises into my life, I would have to resort to continuous use drugs” , He said.
Research and orientation
The study from Tohoku University in Japan said that the rate of deaths from heart disease and diabetes decreased by 40 percent and that from cancer decreased by 28 percent for those who regularly engage in strength-training activities associated with aerobics. Volunteers aged 18 to 97 were followed up for two years for the analysis. The results indicated that premature death among people on the move ranged from 10% to 17% less than among sedentary people.
Pedro Murara is a doctor at the Marcelino Champagnat hospital, in Curitiba, and points out that the perception of indices such as increased cholesterol and blood sugar or hypertension acts as a motivator for the patient to seek healthy habits.
“Often, when a person takes up a sport and is already taking medication for continued use, they find that physical activity and healthy eating help reduce the number of daily pills or even make them lose the need,” he explains. . “But it’s crucial to look for a physical activity that fits into your routine and that you enjoy performing,” she adds.
Murara also reiterates that a family history of sudden death, heart problems, heart attack, heart surgery are important prerequisites for a check-up to be done before starting activities.
“The age limit for this medical follow-up is relatively low. Normally, everyone over 30 is advised to undergo follow-up both for starting a business and for those looking to increase their income. But when there is a case of illness in the family or is going to play high-intensity sports to participate in competitions, the search for a medical evaluation and follow-up should take place regardless of age”, guides.
Running, the democratic sport
Road racing has been gaining space for some years and in the pandemic the growth of this sport has been even greater. The covid-19 risk, with the closure of gyms, made the population bet on outdoor activities and running was the “favourite”.
A running monitoring application had six million Brazilians registered in 2019 and in 2020 that number increased, i.e. it reached 13 million.
Experts go “against the tide” with proper precautions before investing in running and walking. Fabiano Kupczik is an orthopedic surgeon and Knee Group manager at Hospital Universitário Cajuru, and has been providing assistance to beginners.
“Often, being overweight is one of the issues that drive people to seek out running and this is very conducive to injuries. The ideal is to consult a doctor before starting any activity and do it gradually every other day to improve conditioning. Patience from getting results is another ally to avoid knee, foot and hip problems,” he concludes.
