It seems like the other day you were holding that stick with two little red streaks on it, indicating that there was a child in there. Even if anxiety makes time seem to drag on, you are already 20 weeks pregnant, that is, halfway through. Your baby doesn’t stop growing and developing at an impressive pace. All because, soon, he will be right there, in your arms. It is now the size of a dwarf banana, with an average length of 25cm from head to toe.
20 weeks pregnant and lots of life training out here
Your baby tosses, dives, kicks and even hiccups. Yes, hiccups. And it may be that, from now on or in a few weeks, you will experience these hiccups with some frequency. The feeling is strange, but you get used to it soon. No need to be tense. This is normal and happens to most babies in the womb. It is a consequence of the diaphragm spasms, still immature. The hiccups last for a few minutes and then go away on their own.
Inside the uterus, the baby swallows more and more amniotic fluid. It’s a positive sign, as it works as a workout for the digestive system. Then, when it needs to eat, the body will already understand what to do. He too smiles, sucks his finger and plays with the umbilical cord. The growth will accelerate from here on out and you will soon be feeling the kicks for real.
Your body at 20 weeks pregnant
During pregnancy, it is common to see a vertical line that appears to divide the belly. It was there long before you got pregnant, but increased pigmentation from hormones makes it darker — and therefore visible — from the second trimester onwards. It’s called the linea nigra, which, while not all pregnant women have it, is common. The linea nigra can be up to 1 cm wide and run from the upper abdomen to the region below the navel. The more the belly grows, the more it becomes evident. After the baby is born, the spot disappears within a few weeks. Until then, if you go to the beach or the pool, don’t forget to apply sunscreen all over your body to avoid new marks.
Preparations begin
At this point, with 20 weeks of pregnancy, the belly is already noticeable and you are already dreaming about your baby’s face. You can already imagine taking care of him, holding him and walking around. What do you think, then, of preparing yourselves structurally for this arrival? It’s worth starting to research prices and important features, at least for the more expensive items, such as the stroller, infant carrier and bassinet. It’s pointless to want to buy the most expensive products and blow your budget (because you’ll still have other expenses with the baby), but it’s also not worth choosing the cheapest if it has no quality. Here, we show you what to pay attention to in order not to make a mistake when choosing a stroller or baby comfort. Have fun!
