The agreement closed with Pfizer provides for the delivery of the immunizers by the second quarter of 2023
BRASILIA – One day before the end of the government Jair Bolsonaro (PL), the Ministry of Health announced the purchase of an additional 50 million doses of the covid-19 vaccine for the public over the age of 6 months. The agreement closed with the pharmaceutical company Pfizer provides for the delivery of the immunizers by the second quarter of 2023 – between April and June next year.
Buying covid-19 vaccines for next year had been criticized by the transition team by President-elect Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva (PT) in November. The coordinator of the group responsible for Health, Arthur Chioro, said at the time that the ministry had not formalized the acquisition of all the necessary doses.
During the pandemic, Bolsonaro promoted agglomerations and acted against protective measures, such as isolation and the use of masks. The president says he has not been vaccinated against covid and has even associated immunization with the risk of developing the AIDS virus. This Wednesday, 28, the Federal Police (PF) said they saw crime in Bolsonaro’s speech.
The new Healthcare agreement with Pfizer establishes that bivalent vaccines will be purchased for people over 12 years and monovalent doses for the age groups from 6 months to 11 years. According to the contract, the pharmaceutical company will be able to supply immunizers adapted to new variants that can be approved by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).
According to the Ministry of Health, with this purchase the total doses purchased reach 150 million. During 2022, 81 million doses were delivered to Brazil. The remaining 69 million doses under the agreement will be delivered by the second quarter of 2023.
Health reported that two parts are expected for 6 months to 4 years of age in 2023: the first, with 16 million doses, in the first quarter and the second, with 6.68 million doses, in the second quarter. .
Pfizer will make two deliveries for the public aged 5 to 11. One, with 11 million doses, through the first quarter and another, with 6.57 million, in the second quarter. As for the adult public, 9.7 million doses of the bivalent BA.4/BA.5 vaccine are expected to be delivered until June.
