I bet you did not know that the plot of the movie “Love and Doves” is based on real events – the whole story

The cult film “Love and Doves” by Vladimir Menchov was released almost 40 years ago, but invariably remains a favorite of many Russians. Of course, like any other picture, this tragicomedy has its own funny stories from the set and interesting facts.

Thus, few people know that the film was based on the story of the real Vasily and Nadezhda Kuzyakins. The couple lived in the city of Cheremkhovo next to screenwriter Vladimir Gurkin.

The couple was friends with a former miner – an eccentric retired grandfather Mitya, and when an employee of his company tried to take Vasily away from the family, everyone knew about it, of course, including screenwriter Gurkin.

As in the play, in life Vasily also returned to the family. Interestingly, the screenwriter promised the Kuzyakins to change their name, but he forgot to do this, which is why they were offended by him for a long time. First, the play came to life on the stage of the theater, then Vladimir Menchov became interested in it, who decided to make a film.

By the way, the shooting location was looking for a very long time. Initially, the Irkutsk region was considered, but no suitable place was found there. Then Menchov remembered Karelia, but he didn’t like anything there either. Already on the way home, the director drew attention to a house on a mountain near Medvezhyegorsk. A better place could not be imagined.

The owners of the house not only allowed the filming, but also made some improvements: paving the porch with a tree, installing a dovecote and a summer kitchen (the latter was left to the owners as a gift). Pigeons were brought from Moscow, but the rest of the living things were taken from the owners, who, by the way, did not go anywhere, but remained to live in their house. They watched the filming, watered the garden during breaks and treated the filmmakers to various dishes.
