The animal lives in Ohio, in the United States, and was adopted when he was 10 years old, after being found by a family in a market parking lot.

β€œHe had been scratched on his back, had bloodstains around his neck from a chain or rope, and looked pretty haggard,” Spike owner Rita Kimball told the outlet. Guinness.

According to the publication, he was watching an episode of the talk show The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon when he saw the news of the death of Pebbles, a fox terrier who until then was thought to be the oldest dog in the world.

Rita noticed that Spike was even older than the dog, who died at 22, and decided to send a form to the Guinness dispute the record.

Rita revealed that Spike is “small and friendly,” but that because he’s blind and hard of hearing, “he gets cranky sometimes and just wants to be left alone.”

“In general though, he’s great with my grandchildren and has never bitten a stranger. His tail still wags when people talk to him.”

The tutor also said that the dog usually wakes up between 7am and 7.30am and that, on the weekends, he usually walks beside her across the rural property where they live.

“He visits the stable animals: cows, horses and stable cats. If it’s a good day, he’ll chase a cat or two.” After the walk, the animal usually rests on the porch and sunbathes.

β€œMost of our family knew Spike was old, but they didn’t know he had a shot at being the oldest in the world. Now that he’s the record holder, they see him as a celebrity,” Rita joked.
