There are many products that are present in our daily life, and it is not even thought that they are not the result of a long and laborious creation of a new recipe, but the result of an error. No one has achieved such a taste, but it turned out. About the products and dishes that could become a complete failure, but turned into a great success, an expert told VOICE.

Blue cheese

A shepherd was grazing goats near the hamlet of Roquefort and forgot the cheese in the cellar which had been there for a month. After leading the herd to the old pasture after 30 days, the shepherd understood, left his dinner at home, but found a piece of cheese in the cave. The hunger was strong, and he had to eat it despite the mold that appeared.

Today, forgetting the shepherd has become an art: lovers of moldy cheese can safely eat it in small quantities.

Fire chops

In the town of Ostashkov there was a tavern of Prince Pozharsky. Once, Tsar Alexander I came to see him and ordered veal cutlets. But there was no such meat! However, the guest wanted exactly this dish, and then, on the advice of Pozharsky’s wife, the cook made cutlets from poultry and rolled them in breadcrumbs. Alexander I liked the dish so much that it was included in the royal menu and called “Pozharsky cutlets”.

Yogurt

It was formed not because someone was smart for a long time and tried to make a new product, but because of the peculiarities of milk storage in Central Asia. It was poured into a container made from the stomachs of various animals. By storing for some time in such natural containers, milk, thanks to the natural bacteria contained in the stomachs, fermented and a tasty product was obtained. It turned out to be a gut-friendly probiotic as well, especially if you don’t put sugar and other additives in it.

Its inventor discovered that it had enough cocoa to make cookies. Then she decided to break up the chocolate and add it to the batter, expecting it to melt. In a fashionable hotel, customers ordered fries. The order was brought, but they didn’t like the dish. They said the potatoes weren’t crispy enough and undercooked. The chef prepared a new portion, but this time the customers were not happy with the thickness and the degree of preparation. The cook got angry, cut the potatoes into thin slices and fried them. And he was already ready to be sent back – but the visitors were delighted with the dish. This is how fleas were born. Of course, they cannot be called useful, but if you rarely eat french fries and cook them yourself, and do not buy them in packages containing monosodium glutamate, health will not be badly damaged.

Raisin bun

This delicious and popular pastry was invented following an oversight. In the 50s of the XIX century, Governor General Zakrevsky liked to eat the best pastries of Ivan Fillipov for breakfast. And the best copies were delivered to the Governor General’s table. In one of the breakfasts, he broke a bun and caught a cockroach. Naturally, the pastry chef was called in for an explanation. He was not surprised, said it was not a cockroach, but a raisin – and ate it. But the most interesting thing is that on this day, for the Governor General’s walk through Moscow, each Filipov bakery offered excellent raisin buns. We therefore owe the appearance of these delicious pastries to a cockroach.

Whether or not this story is true is not known for certain. It is believed that the French saw the Russian apple marshmallow and decided to do the same. But since they are inventive and like to experiment with ingredients, they started adding protein shakes to apples. The result was a completely different product – marshmallows, no less tasty and interesting. And then the Americans created their own version – marshmallows. In fact, no one can say anymore which came first – Turkish delight or marshmallows, as the ideas are in the air and popping up in various parts of the world.

Olivier

Mayonnaises were very popular in the second half of the 19th century. Lucien Olivier decided to surprise his guests and treat them to artistically arranged and decorated cups. He beautifully arranged partridge fillet, hazelnut grouse, crayfish necks, slices of tongue, veal, garnished with vegetables and served with a Provençal sauce. He expected enthusiasm for the design of the dish, but the guests immediately mixed everything with the sauce and ate it in this form.

Lucien Olivier was terribly offended, and when on the second day the guests asked to repeat the dish, he cut everything and immediately mixed it – expecting displeasure. But the visitors were completely delighted, and we have a new dish that we are preparing for the holidays, although it is heavily modified.
