Information about how to brush your teeth properly and the right way to floss has been around for a long time. But there is one very important character in this whole story who is often overlooked. Even the toothbrush needs care in choosing, washing and storing.
The most correct thing is that the toothbrushes are replaced with a frequency of about three months. The ideal brush is the one that hinders the contamination and proliferation of microorganisms, i.e. it must have a clean, neat design, a simple, smooth shape, without irregularities and produced with non-porous materials.
When you wash it, just passing it in water is not enough. To reduce the risk of the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms, contamination must be avoided and the steps are very simple. See how:
– Before starting oral hygiene, hands and nails should be thoroughly washed and scrubbed with soap and water.
– A mouthwash with water must be carried out to eliminate food residues, as this decreases the possibility that the food remains trapped between the bristles and undergoes subsequent decomposition. If there are food particles trapped between the teeth, these should also be removed before brushing with the aid of dental floss and interdental brushes.
– After finishing brushing, wash the brush with warm running water.
– Remove excess water with a small tap of the brush on the palm of your hand or on the edge of the bathroom sink.
– Spray or drip drops of mouthwash, preferably based on 0.12% chlorhexidine normally used for mouthwashes.
– Wear a hat which must also have the inside soaked in an antiseptic solution.
– Then the brush can be stored inside the closed bathroom cabinet. Avoid leaning one brush against the other. The antiseptic will remain active throughout the interval between brushings, promoting effective disinfection.
