Review: Air Fryer Cadence, is the oil-free air fryer worth the hype?

A while back I saw a meme that said something like “say something that has fanatic supporters and that’s not politics, religion or football” and the first thing that popped up was Air Fryer. At home, we never consume a lot of fried food, so we never research deep fryer technology. What I knew was: some people love it, some people hate it.

When Cadence offered one for us here at Casa.com.br to test, I was very curious. Was the hype valid? Share our experience here.

Air Fryer Test

-

An air fryer is a pan that cooks food through convection of hot air. Thermal shock simulates frying and forms a crispy shell.

As soon as I opened the box I realized that it’s a little bigger than I imagined, you’ll need to reserve a good amount of counter or cabinet space to store it. It measures 30cm x 25cm and has a 3 liter capacity.

I know there are people who also make caviar in the air fryer but since the idea was to compare conventional frying and frying without oil, I opted for something simple and that everyone knows how it tastes: chicken nuggets. I did absolutely nothing before putting them on the plate. No brushing oil or anything. Cadence’s air fryer would have to fend for itself if it wanted my approval.

The box of kibble said the time was 10 minutes. I set the timer, put half the bag in it and fried the other half in a regular pan with oil.

I confess that I was not confident in the air fryer’s performance. I figured my croquettes would be warm but no crunchiness. But I was wrong! Not only did they cook well, they were crispier than pan fried! And for not having oil, they were drier (and healthier).

It’s worth mentioning here that I left them 5 minutes longer than stated on the packaging, so it took 15 minutes for them to brown as I wanted.

Conclusions

After the nuggets, we made fries, dadinho tapioca, cheese bread, all of which were very tasty. The air fryer definitely works great!

The good points are Health, as there is no need to add extra fat to food; THE practicality, since you can use the timer and go do other things; and the versatilitythere are endless possible recipes (we’re even thinking about trying some Japanese foods!).

The cons are preparation time, something you could fry in five minutes could take double or even triple the time; and the portion sizesyou won’t be able to make a giant bag of fries in one go, so if the idea is to throw a party for 50 people, it might not be the best option.

However, for the daily life of families, or for those who live alone, it’s a great alternative! In these cases, including even the smallest portions can be an advantage. Who has never been too lazy to turn on the oven to make three cheese bread? Finally, I joined the team of people who love the air fryer!
