Brazilian aviation influencer Lito Sousa, 59, was honoured by country music duo Cesar Menotti and Fabiano during the 71st edition of the Festa do Peao de Barretos on Wednesday night.
The musical tribute took place on August 26 as the sertanejo stars paused their concert to pay homage to their friend, who is battling a rare neurodegenerative condition.
Speaking to the festival crowd during the show, Cesar Menotti said that the duo wanted to unite their faith so that it would reach Sousa's life, asking God to hear their prayers. He added that they hoped to see Sousa sit on his show once again, deliver his familiar line inviting viewers to sit for a story, and tell the story of his turbulence and eventual victory.
Menotti stated that as long as there is hope the size of a mustard seed, they will continue to believe in a miracle. He told the audience he wanted to transmit all the energy, emotion, and faith of the Barretos crowd to Sousa before the duo performed the gospel song Ta Chorando Por Que.
As the pair sang, a photograph of the influencer was displayed on the background screen alongside the message: Forca, Lito!
Creutzfeldt-Jakob diagnosis and search for treatment
Sousa received a diagnosis of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, a rare and degenerative illness that causes loss of bodily movement and dementia. There is currently no treatment available for the condition.
Mila Seidl, Sousa's wife, is actively seeking her husband's inclusion in experimental research studies being conducted across Europe and the United States.
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is a fatal brain disorder caused by abnormal proteins known as prions. The condition leads to rapid neurodegeneration, affecting memory, speech, and physical movement, with most cases progressing rapidly after symptoms appear.
Aviation channel and public impact
Sousa became widely known as the creator and host of Avioes e Musica, a popular digital media channel where he explains aircraft operations, mechanical engineering, and general aviation topics.
A veteran aircraft maintenance technician, Sousa built a large following online by explaining aviation mechanics, breaking down air accident reports, and demystifying complex flight safety procedures for the general public.
