Loreen Tipped to Return to Melodifestivalen for 2027

Swedish media suggest two-time Eurovision winner Loreen could return to Melodifestivalen in 2027 after postponing her tour to next spring.

Loreen Tipped to Return to Melodifestivalen for 2027

Loreen is being tipped by Swedish media to return to Melodifestivalen, the country's Eurovision selection show, in 2027, which would give the two-time champion a shot at a third Eurovision victory representing Sweden.

The speculation follows Sweden's disappointing 20th-place finish at the Eurovision Song Contest final in Vienna in May, where Felicia's entry "My System" collected just 51 points and failed to win over European audiences. Meanwhile, the European Broadcasting Union and Bulgaria are deciding between Sofia and Burgas to host the contest's 71st edition.

Loreen's decision to postpone her European tour until spring 2027 has fuelled talk of a comeback to Melodifestivalen, the multi-week television format Sweden uses to choose its Eurovision entry each year. She had been due to tour Europe in September and October 2026 and to appear at several summer festivals, but has now cancelled her stage commitments until next year.

Loreen told fans the decision was carefully considered and tied to her wish to give her concerts "all the energy and all the soul" they deserve, adding that she does not like to do things by halves. New tour dates will be announced soon, and tickets already purchased will remain valid, with refunds available for fans who cannot attend the rescheduled shows.

Why the timing matters

The rescheduling carries particular weight in Sweden, where rumours suggest Loreen could be preparing a return to Melodifestivalen 2027, five years after her landmark victory with "Tattoo." The singer has not confirmed any participation, but shifting her main professional commitments to spring 2027 leaves a significant window open and puts her name once again among the leading candidates to represent Sweden at the festival.

Should the rumours prove true and Loreen go on to represent Sweden again, she would do so at the 71st edition of Eurovision, which the European Broadcasting Union and Bulgaria are currently preparing to host in either Sofia or Burgas.

A two-time Eurovision winner

Loreen has become one of the most prominent figures in recent Eurovision history. Her breakthrough came in 2012, when she represented Sweden with "Euphoria." Her performance in Baku, Azerbaijan, ended in a commanding victory and turned the song into one of the contest's best-known anthems, while also launching her international career.

A decade later, she returned to Melodifestivalen with "Tattoo," once again earning Sweden's ticket to Eurovision, held in 2023 in Liverpool. There she made history a second time, winning with one of the most memorable performances of that edition and becoming the first woman to win Eurovision twice, matching a record previously held solely by Ireland's Johnny Logan.

Since then, Loreen has remained one of the most recognisable names associated with the contest, and her possible return to Sweden's selection process for Eurovision 2027 has generated particular excitement. A third attempt would put one of the contest's leading contemporary figures back in the position of representing Sweden once more.
