Spanish singer Lorena Gómez has returned to the stage to launch a special concert tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of her career in music. The opening performance of her tour, titled '20 años de canciones', took place on Sunday in the town of Titulcia, located in the Community of Madrid.
The tour is designed to showcase the balance between the nostalgia of her early years and her growth as an artist. Gómez launched the milestone project nearly two decades after she first rose to national prominence on Spanish television.
Her career began on 8 October 2006, when the doors opened for a new season of the popular reality television music competition Operación Triunfo. Gómez entered the show as a 20-year-old contestant and went on to be crowned the winner on 26 January 2007 after nearly four months of competition. Operación Triunfo, a long-running talent show and music academy in Spain, has launched numerous prominent pop careers since its debut in 2001.
A career-spanning setlist in Titulcia
Gómez took the stage in Titulcia with the same excitement she felt during her television auditions two decades ago. She admitted to feeling the necessary pre-show nerves that come with performing before an audience that values her work, delivering a concert that combined emotional depth with polished vocal technique.
The performance featured a setlist reflecting key moments in her musical journey. It included 'Me vuelvo a la vida', a song that marked the start of an important melodic chapter in her career, and 'El peón y la reina', another track from that period of artistic reconstruction.
Gómez also performed 'La teoría', which is widely regarded as the most vocally demanding track in her entire repertoire. In addition, the setlist incorporated nods to copla and Spanish folklore, traditional musical styles with deep roots in Spanish culture that she used to warm up her voice with as a young girl.
Reflections on childhood and social media
Following the opening show, Gómez shared a clip on her Instagram account, where she has 430,000 followers, showing her performing a fragment of 'Te quiero más que a mi vida'. The singer, whose music is regularly broadcast on the commercial Spanish radio network CADENA 100, reflected on the emotional impact of the evening.
Writing alongside the video, Gómez said that suddenly, in the middle of a concert, moments like that happen. She told her followers that among the songs spanning her 20-year career, one appeared that reminded her of why she first entered the music world, allowing her to return for a short while to being a nine-year-old girl singing in her bedroom in her hometown of Lleida, in western Catalonia.
Gómez reflected on how much she owed to those early songs and noted that it was beautiful to continue finding herself in them so many years later. She expressed her gratitude to the audience in Titulcia, describing the concert as a beautiful start to the tour.
She also thanked her musical director and keyboard player, Angie Lófer, praising her magical hands as a key element of the upcoming tour. Gómez added that further details regarding future concert dates would be announced soon.
Upcoming return to the Madrid stage
In addition to her concert tour, Gómez is preparing to return to the theatre stage later this month. She began exploring acting two years ago when she received the script for 'Rincones: el amor, ¿merece la pena?', a play created by José Andrés López de la Rica.
After completing a dozen performances of the play in 2025, Gómez will reprise her role as the character Macorina at the Teatro EDP Gran Vía in central Madrid on 26 September 2026. The performance will be a single-night engagement in the Spanish capital, with tickets already available for purchase.
