Fran Perea on a possible revival

The idea of bringing back Los Serrano gained renewed momentum this year, two decades after the series ended. Fran Perea said in May, during an interview on Cadena SER's Si amanece, nos vamos, that a revival could happen and that, while nothing is settled, steps are already being taken to explore it.

Perea said the renewed appetite for nostalgic television, driven in part by the recent success of Aída's return, shows audiences remain attached to the characters. He said he has read a plot outline set 20 years later, in which the neighborhood has changed with the times and the Taberna Hermanos Serrano has become a modern gastrobar run by a new generation, while Antonio Resines' character continues to clash humorously with the changes.

Perea said he was trying to move the project forward. He noted there had already been commemorative initiatives, including concerts and cast reunions, but never an official continuation. He said the possibility remains at a very early stage.

Record ratings and a divisive finale

Los Serrano aired on Telecinco and became one of Spanish television's biggest hits of the 2000s. Some episodes drew more than 7.6 million viewers and a screen share near 42%, figures unheard of today. The show's average audience was around 5 million viewers, with a share close to 29% through its final seasons.

The series is also remembered for one of Spanish television's most debated endings. Belén Rueda recalled on the podcast El sentido de la birra that the finale revealed the entire story had been a dream. She said it was impossible to accept, since the children in the show had grown up so much by that point. Rueda said the ending was bizarre but also an emotional way to reunite all the characters.
