Lucas González undergoes nasal reconstruction in Turkey

Spanish singer Lucas González has undergone complex nasal reconstruction surgery in Turkey following almost two years of severe cosmetic and medical complications. González, who achieved widespread fame as part of the Spanish pop duo Andy y Lucas, shared optimistic early impressions from his post-operative recovery, stating that surgeons had left him looking very handsome and that his profile was visible once again.

The singer explained while still in recovery that his nose had turned out beautiful after the procedure. He expressed excitement that after a long period of medical difficulty, his nose had finally recovered its shape.

González first rose to prominence as half of Andy y Lucas, a hit-making Spanish pop duo formed in Cádiz, Andalusia, alongside Andrés Morales. Over a career spanning more than two decades, the group earned multiple platinum records across Spain and Latin America before announcing their professional separation.

Public Speculation and Television Confession

The surgery marks the latest chapter in a medical ordeal that began in 2024, when changes to the singer's facial appearance first sparked intense media interest and public speculation. González initially denied having undergone any cosmetic surgery, even attributing the visible changes in his nose to genetic factors.

In January 2025, González publicly acknowledged the truth during an emotional appearance on the popular Spanish television talk show El Hormiguero. Tearfully addressing viewers, he admitted to having undergone a rhinoplasty and took full personal responsibility for the resulting complications. He explained that he had removed his surgical packing prematurely and failed to strictly follow his post-operative wound care instructions.

Medical experts, however, noted that the situation was likely more complicated. Plastic surgeon and rhinoplasty specialist Dr. Ramón López, who was consulted by Spanish newspaper LA RAZÓN, indicated that early gauze removal or missed ointment applications alone could not explain such a severe structural deformation. Although Dr. López did not examine González personally or inspect his clinical records, he identified a surgical infection as a likely contributing factor and warned that complete reconstructive surgery would be necessary.

Severe Complications and Postponed Operations

An infection indeed became one of the primary obstacles to the singer's recovery. González later disclosed that he had suffered from poor scar tissue formation and ongoing bacterial complications, while his nasal cartilage remained too damaged to support immediate revision surgery.

To help repair damaged tissue and prepare his body for future surgery, González underwent specialized treatments including hyperbaric chamber therapy, nasal washes, and topical medication. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized room or tube, a clinical treatment used to stimulate cellular repair and combat resistant bacterial infections.

Despite these interventions, surgical plans faced repeated delays. Reconstructive surgery was initially scheduled for April 2025 but had to be postponed because the nasal tissue had not healed sufficiently. By September 2025, González continued to experience bleeding from the surgical scar, prompting doctors to defer the operation rather than risk the failure of a new cartilage graft. By March 2026, he remained under medical evaluation and was completing targeted antibiotic cycles to treat persistent bacteria.

Psychological Strain and Impact on Family

The physical issues created a profound psychological toll for the artist that extended far beyond aesthetics. Internet memes, viral jokes, and public commentary regarding his facial appearance began affecting his children, adding emotional distress to his physical condition.

González described facing severe mental health struggles throughout the ordeal. He revealed that the ongoing complications and public scrutiny led to bouts of anxiety, depression, social isolation, agoraphobia, and body dysmorphia.

Surgical Reconstruction in Turkey

González ultimately chose Turkey for his corrective surgery to resolve the long-standing complications. In recent years, Turkey has become a prominent global hub for medical tourism and complex plastic surgery, attracting international patients for specialized procedures.

The surgical intervention involved a joint effort between a Spanish plastic surgeon and a Turkish medical specialist. Because of the extensive deterioration of the original cartilage, the medical team had to employ advanced reconstructive techniques to rebuild the nasal structure.

Recovery Outlook and Current Status

Medical specialists caution that it remains too early to evaluate the final outcome of the operation. González will remain under direct medical supervision until early September 2026, while full healing will require several months as post-operative swelling gradually subsides and tissues settle.

Despite the lengthy recovery timeline, González expressed renewed hope after nearly two years of distress, noting that he can finally view his reflection with optimism now that his nose has regained its proper form.
