Luma Costa, 38, has confirmed a falling out with fellow Brazilian actress Marina Ruy Barbosa, 31, after the longtime friends unfollowed each other on Instagram.
The estrangement between the two actresses, who have been friends since childhood, caught the attention of internet users and became a widely discussed topic on social media over the weekend. Speculation began on Sunday, November 1, when followers noticed that the pair no longer followed one another on the platform, prompting questions about the possible end of a friendship that has lasted more than two decades.
One version circulating on social media claimed that the split had been motivated by political differences. After journalist Hugo Gloss commented on that rumour, Luma Costa decided to reply directly on his post.
Denial of political rumours
Luma Costa confirmed the disagreement with Marina Ruy Barbosa, but denied that politics had caused them to drift apart. She stated that she would not end a friendship over differences in political views.
Addressing Hugo Gloss directly, the actress wrote that he was her friend and knew very well who she was, adding that she would never break off a relationship because of politics. She pointed out that her own sister, Lari, votes differently from her, and said that difference had never changed the love and respect she has for her sibling.
Luma Costa went on to criticise the association of her name with an alleged extremist stance and questioned the version shared online. She wrote that she would not accept people distorting her values and placing her into a narrative of political extremism. She added that politics would have been the perfect alibi, while insisting that it was not the reason for the rift.
