Actor Brad Pitt's son Maddox has legally dropped his father's surname, becoming the second of the couple's six children to do so, following his younger sister Shiloh.
A Los Angeles judge granted the name change on Monday, officially making the 25-year-old's legal name Maddox Chivan Jolie, according to Page Six, which reviewed the court order.

"There are no objections, the petition for change of name is granted," the court order states. "The Decree is signed and filed. The Petitioner's name is changed from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie."
Maddox attended the hearing remotely at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, alongside his attorney, Peter Levine.
Other Jolie-Pitt Children Follow Suit
Zahara, 21, and fraternal twins Vivienne and Knox, 18, have informally stopped using their father's surname and plan to legalize the change as well.

Earlier this year, Maddox and Zahara published legal notices in the Los Angeles Daily Journal declaring their intent to drop Pitt's last name. Zahara has a name change hearing scheduled for September 28.
Shiloh's Earlier Name Change
In July 2024, Shiloh's attorney issued a statement about her decision to drop the 62-year-old actor's surname. She filed for the change on her birthday in May, and it was publicly announced through a legal notice in the Los Angeles Times.

Levine, who also represented Shiloh, said she "made an independent and significant decision following painful events," adding that she was "merely following legal process" by publishing the notice.
One month after Shiloh filed, a source told People that Pitt's relationship with his older children remained strained. "He has virtually no contact with the adult kids. His engagement with the younger kids is more limited in recent months because of his filming schedule," the insider said at the time.

Pitt and Jolie's Relationship History
Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston from 2000 to 2005 before moving on with Jolie, now 51, his co-star from Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
The couple split in 2016 after a 12-year relationship and two-year marriage. Their divorce was finalized eight years later, in December 2024.

Pitt and Jolie remain locked in an ongoing legal battle over their shared French winery, Château Miraval. Pitt claims Jolie sold her stake to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler behind his back, breaking an agreement that neither would sell without the other's knowledge.
Pitt has been in a relationship with jewelry designer Ines de Ramon, 33, since 2022.
