Matthew Rhys revealed that he keeps his Emmy Awards tucked away in the basement of his home, a gesture toward his longtime partner, actress Keri Russell, who has not yet won one of her own. Rhys, who added three more Emmys to his collection at the 2026 ceremony on September 14, told CNN afterward that the trophies stay out of sight "because I kind of said, when Keri wins one, I'll take mine out."
Rhys and Russell played married Soviet spies on FX's "The Americans," the role that earned him his first Emmy in 2018. He said at the time he felt uneasy celebrating without her. "I just feel bad," he said on a May episode of "Obsessed: The Podcast," adding that he did not want to take anything away from Claire Foy, who won for "The Crown" that year, but "I just wish Keri got it because she was so incredible."
At the 2026 ceremony, Rhys won acting honors for his roles in the Netflix limited series "The Beast in Me" and the Apple TV+ series "Widow's Bay," then picked up a third trophy as a producer when the spooky "Widow's Bay" won Outstanding Comedy Series.
