Maxim Pokrovsky, leader of Russian rock band Nogu Svelo, announced he came to Ukraine to film a documentary about the war titled I'm Here to Witness. He is also recording an English version of Our Young Funny Voices, one of the band's most popular songs.
In a video posted on Instagram, Pokrovsky said he arrived with love, warmth, and huge respect. He said his main goal is to ensure as many people as possible around the world learn about what he saw with his own eyes. Pokrovsky publicly declared his love for Ukrainians, wished them a swift victory, and offered the greeting Glory to Ukraine.
Crimea Concerts and Backlash in Kyiv
In a second video message, Pokrovsky addressed questions about his concerts in occupied Crimea from 2015 to 2016 and what he has done for Ukraine beyond songs and talk. He said he detailed those visits to Ukrainian media at the start of the full-scale invasion, explaining he was going through a difficult period and was completely detached from events. He expressed deep regret, adding that time machines do not exist and the past cannot be changed.
News agency UNIAN previously reported that Pokrovsky arrived in Kyiv for the first time in over 15 years and came under a massive Russian attack. His arrival drew criticism from Ukrainian musician and serviceman Yurko Yurchenko, who publicly expressed outrage and stated that there are no good Russians.
