Melania Trump returned to public duties at the White House on Thursday following a month-long absence from public events, appearing in the Rose Garden to launch a $2 million higher education initiative for former foster youth.
The First Lady announced a new strategic partnership between her Fostering the Future program, motor racing organisation IndyCar, and media company Fox Corporation to fund university scholarships.

White House foster care education alliance
The collaborative funding effort will establish dedicated scholarships at Indiana University and Purdue University to support young people transitioning out of the foster care system into higher education.
During the Rose Garden event, which coincided with the upcoming IndyCar Freedom 250 race weekend in Washington, Trump was presented with a customized racing helmet decorated in red, white, and blue.
Red Dior skirt and Michael Kors blue shirt

Trump selected a red Dior pencil skirt tailored below the knee with a fitted waist, paired with a sky-blue Michael Kors shirt featuring a loose silhouette, rolled-up sleeves, and an upturned collar.
She completed the look with matching red stiletto heel pumps, creating a continuous block of color from the waist down while contrasting the primary shade against the light blue top.
The red and blue color scheme echoed American patriotic symbolism at the White House. Former First Ladies have historically used fashion for public messaging, including Jackie Kennedy's pastel suits, Nancy Reagan's signature red attire, and Michelle Obama's focus on American designers.
Spring 2026 color trends and runway fashion
The pairing of bold red and blue also aligns with fashion trends seen across the Spring-Summer 2026 runway collections, where intense primary colors were styled directly against one another rather than softened with neutrals.
Designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez showcased prominent primary shades of yellow, blue, green, and red in their debut collection for Spanish luxury house Loewe. Trump's ensemble adopted a similar approach by giving both bright red and blue equal visual weight in the outfit.
