Miley Cyrus Vows to Stay Strong After Dolly Parton Dies

Pop singer Miley Cyrus has released an emotional public tribute following the death of her aunt, godmother, and mentor, country music legend Dolly Parton. Cyrus posted the message to her Instagram account on Wednesday night, sharing her grief and outlining a personal vow to honor Parton through music and strength.

Accompanying a photograph of a young Parton featuring her iconic teased hairstyle, Cyrus promised to handle her loss by continuing her artistic work. She wrote that Parton would want her to feel the emotion fully, write a song about the experience, and then carry on being strong.

Cyrus reflected on the deeply personal relationship she shared with Parton, stating that the full extent of her loss was beyond what she felt comfortable sharing publicly. She wrote that their most sacred moments were kept private behind the scenes, beneath the glamour, and within their hearts.

Personal Tribute and Public Support

Expressing gratitude for Parton's guidance, Cyrus noted that she has an angel by her side and always has had. She stated that she will always strive to make Parton proud of her, while extending her condolences to fans, family, and friends around the world who are mourning the loss. Cyrus added that everyone is united in the loss and will continue to see Parton in all beautiful things.

The post drew widespread support across the music industry, including a response from fellow pop singer Katy Perry. Perry commented on the post, stating that she loved Cyrus very much and that Cyrus was the first person she thought of upon learning the news of Parton's passing.

A Lifetime Mentorship and Musical Legacy

The bond between Parton and Cyrus extended back to Cyrus's birth in 1992. Parton first met Cyrus's father, country musician Billy Ray Cyrus, in early 1990 when both were prominent figures in the country music genre. Their initial professional friendship developed into a musical partnership that led them to embark on a joint tour together in 1992.

When Billy Ray Cyrus welcomed his daughter Miley in 1992, he asked Parton to take on the role of godmother. Parton accepted the responsibility and remained an active mentor throughout Cyrus's life and career. Cyrus later rose to international prominence as a child star on the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana before building a successful solo pop career. Over the decades, the pair frequently shared the stage for joint performances and collaborative musical projects.

Speculation Over Musical Catalogue

Following Parton's death, reports in US media have focused on the future of her extensive song catalogue. Speculation in the American press suggests that Parton may have willed her entire musical catalogue to Cyrus, reflecting the deep trust Parton placed in her goddaughter to preserve her musical legacy.

Parton had no children with her late husband, Carl Dean, who passed away a year and a half ago after more than 50 years of marriage. Although Parton maintained close relationships with her nieces and nephews, one of whom announced her death to the world in a video posted on social media, reports indicate that her iconic music catalogue is expected to pass directly to Cyrus.
