Minka Kelly Reacts to Ransom Canyon's Cancellation

Netflix has canceled Ransom Canyon after two seasons, and star Minka Kelly confirmed the news with an emotional goodbye to fans and colleagues. The drama, which also starred Josh Duhamel, told the love story of rancher Staten Kirkland and musician Quinn O'Grady.

"Appreciating this little trip down memory lane as we say farewell," Kelly wrote on Instagram on September 11. "All good things must come to an end. And so it is."

Kelly, 46, went on to thank viewers for sticking with the show since it debuted in 2025. "Thank you all for giving us two beautiful seasons!" she wrote. "I love you forever my Ransom Canyon family!!"

Fans React to the News

Duhamel, 53, had not publicly commented on the cancellation as of publication, but fans quickly flooded Kelly's post with their reactions. "This is so sad," one viewer wrote. "Wish there was more of this amazing show. I am literally looking to get every look Quinn and Staten wore in season 2 for me and my husband. I hope they magically rethink this as this show definitely deserves to continue."

Another commenter placed the blame squarely on the streamer. "@netflix made a bad decision," they wrote. "They could have at least allowed a 3rd season...I hope someone else picks it up. I loved both seasons, and I was invested in all of the characters and storylines."

Deadline confirmed the cancellation.

What Ransom Canyon Was About

Ransom Canyon is based on the book series of the same name by author Jodi Thomas. According to Netflix's logline, season two followed Duhamel's Staten Kirkland as he fought to reclaim his legacy after being unseated as trustee of his family's Double K Ranch, while Kelly's Quinn O'Grady had to decide whether her heart belonged in the small Texas town she once tried to outrun or in the fast-paced world of New York City.

Kelly is also known for playing Lyla Garrity on Friday Night Lights.

Not a Yellowstone Copycat, Cast Says

Despite its Texas ranch setting, the Ransom Canyon cast has pushed back on comparisons to the hit Western Yellowstone. "I guess they're both in the same sandbox, but I think Ransom is a totally different thing," Kelly told E! News last year. "It's its own entirely different world."

She said the show offered far more than cowboys defending their land. "It's family, it's romance, beautiful landscapes, it's cowboys, it's horses," Kelly said. "It's love, loss and betrayal. You're watching these characters find purpose and come into their own power."

With Netflix's decision, the romance between Staten and Quinn will conclude after two seasons, leaving fans hoping another outlet might pick up the series.
