The Lion King: Where does the scar scar come from?

The Lion King: Where does the scar scar come from?

How did Scar, Simba Machiavelli’s uncle, get his scar and his nickname? Go back to the 3 different explanations for the mysterious leak.

A long black mane, a poisonous smile, two big green eyes … and a horrible rash on his left cheek. If the evil scar (Mufasa’s brother and Simba’s uncle) looks so dangerous on the Lion King, it’s largely due to his famous scar.

A scratch that apparently failed to oust him and which undoubtedly allowed him to get his nickname, but whose origins were never indicated in the classic Disney studio animation. And yet, there is an explanation – and a few more – for the existence of this wrinkle on a lion’s face.

Indeed, when we take a step back from the original feature film, we will see that the story of Scar Scar is told three times and each time in a different way …

Horn blow

That was in 1994, just a few months after the release Lion king In theaters, the origins of Scar are first narrated in a children’s book called A tale about two brothers (A tale about two brothers). Thus, this illustrated book explores the youth of Mufasa and Scar.

The latter, originally called Taka (a word meaning “defect” in Swahili), is envious of his brother deliberately ascending the throne. With the help of the three hyenas he has just met, he then decides to lower Mufa by pushing a terrible buffalo to attack him. Takas unfortunately has his strategy backfired and the animal follows him back, followed by his entire herd.

Astonished by the terrible horn blow, he then gets his famous scar. An event that only highlights his bitterness and jealousy.

Poisonous bite

In the animated series The Lion Guard, which airs on Disney Junior since 2016 and tells the story of the adventures of Kion (Simba and Nala’s young son), a completely different explanation is given for Scarry’s past and the birth of his famous scar.

As he recounts during a music session, Skar was once called Ahad and himself was the head of the guard (long before Kyon). Rewarded by the power of Roar, he was approached by a strange and evil lion who decided to use him to seize the throne.

After being led directly into a trap where a venomous snake bit his left eye, an unknown lion tried to monopolize Ahad’s servants, but the latter did not give up and crushed the enemy with his own forces.

Humiliated by his brother Mufasa, who later nicknamed him Scar, when he discovered his scar, Ahad, who was still under the influence of poison, then began a conspiracy to become the king of the land of lions.

Fratricidal fight

In the 2019 version of The Lion King, even if this event is mentioned quite briefly, it seems that Scar inherited his scar after a ruthless battle with Mufasa.

“I swore to myself that I would never challenge you, never again”Thus, he declares his brother at the beginning of the film, most likely pointing to an old duel against the king for the appropriation of his throne and his wife Sarab.

Even if the rivalry between the two lions is mentioned very quickly in this remake, we can imagine that it will be at the heart of a new feature film announced by Disney Studios in 2020. A film that explores precisely Mufasa and the past. Scar.
