‘Lightyear’: release date, synopsis, trailer and everything we know about the Toy Story spin-off

New trailer for ‘Lightyear’, the Pixar film that will tell us about the stellar origins of Buzz Lightyear, the real astronaut behind the ‘Toy Story’ toy.

It all took off for Pixar with buzz lightyearthe day the toy arrived at Andy’s house and turned Woody and company’s lives upside down. toy story (1995) was the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs of the company and digital animation. At the time John Lasseter animated a group of toys, among other things, because the technology was not developed enough to dare with the textures of flesh and bones. Twenty-seven years later the panorama has changed, Pixar belongs to the Disney company and has shown to be capable of animating human beings like no one else. So it was a decision as daring as it was natural to return 27 years later to the character with whom it all started to narrate the “real” origins of Buzz Lightyear.

This is the first major spin-off of toy story. directs her Angus McLanethe same co-responsible for Finding Dory, and it is without a doubt one of the most anticipated films of the coming year. Right now the film is almost finished, in post-production, and this is all we know.

    ‘Lightyear’: Release Date

There is still a long way to go before the premiere, but we already know that it will be next summer’s film. Lightyear will premiere on June 17, 2022.

    ‘Lightyear’: Synopsis

In the absence of a detailed official synopsis, we only know that ‘Lightyear’ will distance itself from the domestic adventures of ‘Toy Story’ toys to go to infinity and beyond in a science fiction, adventure and action installment in space. It’s the story of Buzz Lightyear’s origins and how he went from test pilot to astronaut who inspired the franchise’s Space Ranger toy.

At Pixar they wanted to do something independent and apart from the world of Toy Story, with its own entity, and they have insisted a lot that it is the story of the real space ranger and not the toy. So everything we know about Buzz’s background has to be taken with a grain of salt.

In the world of toys, where in addition to the toy-come-to-life movies there is a direct-to-video film titled ‘Buzz Lightyear: The Movie’ and the animated series ‘Buzz Lightyear: Guardians of Space’, Lightyear is a Guardian of the Space pitted against the evil Emperor Zurg in an intergalactic struggle on which the Universe depends. Chapter by chapter, Buzz faces him accompanied by new characters and the mythical little green men. But this is the fictional story within the fiction of toy story And you know the writers: even in adapting the life of the real Lightyear, their imaginations got a little out of hand.

The spin-off will have a more realistic cut, which will probably recover the authentic inspiration of the character: the astronaut Buzz Aldrin of Apollo 11, the second person to walk on the moon. Presumably, the elements that make him more like a GI Joe will go into the background at least for much of the film, but its creators will undoubtedly play with the references and how reality becomes legend.

In an interview in Entertainment Weekly, the director of the film, Angus MacLane, has given another key that will connect the character of Lightyear with the toy: Just as in the 1995 film Buzz Lightyear denied his identity as a toy and lived on the fringes of the real world, in the spin-off “Buzz has a disagreement about the nature of reality”.

    ‘Lightyear’: Cast

Little do we know so far who will give voice to the animated beings of Lightyear beyond that of its protagonist, but what news! In another estrangement from the toy, none other than Chris Evans will replace Tim Allen as the voice of Buzz Lightyear. the actor of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has the perfect voice for this new Buzz. According to MacLane, the actor has the ability to provide notes of humor in the most serious moments, and that is the key quality that this character needs:

“That’s what he does really well as Captain America. This isn’t the same character, but he showed he could do it. He’s a really good comedic actor, he’s a really good dramatic actor, and he’s also really good at action.”

In fact, as fans have pointed out in the first trailer for Lightyear includes a small tribute to the iconic character of Chris Evans in Marvel. This is the scene where Buzz Lightyear meets for the first time what will be his galactic suit.

Evans himself has also acknowledged being a big fan of animated films and Pixar and that this role is “a dream come true”. The entire shooting experience, he says, was “magical.”

    ‘Lightyear’: Trailer

The first trailer for the film came out in October. It wasn’t even two minutes long but it takes us on a journey that goes from realistic astronaut movies like ‘First Man’ to the space adventures of a space opera. And most importantly, we see Buzz Lightyear as a real person. The icing on the trailer comes at the end when it sounds ‘Starman’ from David Bowie and we are left wanting to see much, much more.

Now the next trailer does not arrive with some more footage of the story. More Lightyear, more space travel and more Bowie. You can see it at the beginning of this news.
