January’s selection of indie videos ranges from grunge to alternative dance floors.
In addition to some well-known names from those who follow the releases, the list also highlights less familiar sounds, such as the Turkish psychedelia of Altin Gün, the German cold wave of Another Abyss and the Australian dreampop of Futureheaven. But the list also includes some famous veterans, such as Everything But the Girl, Patrick Wolf and Ladytron, who return with new songs.
The highlight, however, is the new record by the Canadian duo Softcult, formed by the twins Mercedes and Phoenix Arn-Horn. The track “Dress” stands out from the playlist with its theme of sexual abuse and consent violations, as well as the sonic contrast between howls of protest and symphonic mic guitars, which is baffling.
As always, the videos are organized by sound affinity in a playlist: to view them on Smart TVs, look for Cast in the Chrome settings tab or More tools / Cast etc. in Edge. Some videos are a little older (September and October) to fit the sequence of songs and emphasize the impression of video recording.
