Case occurred in Oklahoma (USA); the man had to cancel “non-refundable tickets” to Thailand due to lack of money
A couple had to cancel a trip with their four children to Thailand after a Starbucks in Oklahoma, US, mistakenly charged $4,456 (about $23,000 at current exchange rates) for two coffees.
Second New York Post, the case occurred on January 7 of this year. On that date, Jesse O’Deill and his wife, Deedee, went to the cafeteria and ordered an “Iced Americano” and a Caramel Frappucino. Together, the two coffees cost US$10 (about R$52). But, at the time of payment, the institute made the wrong charge and the man didn’t notice it at the time.
The error was only discovered later, when the woman had to use the card and the purchase was declined. According to the couple, they contacted the café several times and received checks for the amount charged. The checks, however, fell through.
Due to lack of money at the time, they had to cancel the family trip to Thailand, Deedee’s hometown, and the tickets were non-refundable.
To the New York Post, a Starbucks rep said the checks bounced due to a typo, but new ones had already been sent. The spokesperson also said it was O’Deill who added the huge tip to the order.
O’Deill, however, denied the allegation and explained that he had been informed there was a problem with the café’s network. “I know how to push buttons. I didn’t push that button. If it wasn’t the bartender, then it’s definitely your network, which is a big deal,” the man told the bartender. McClatchy News.
