Steve Wozniak finds ChatGPT great, but warns of ‘horrible bugs’

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak said that ChatGPT is a very useful tool, but that the technology makes serious mistakes that need to be fixed.

co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak urged caution in using the popular ChatGPT due to the early development momentum of the technology. The popular developer said in an interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box that the chatbot is “pretty impressive” and has great use for humans, but it also has the potential to make serious mistakes.

In an analogy, Wozniak said AI is very reminiscent of the concern for self-driving car technology. As soon as they were announced, many people thought that AI could drive instead of humans, but that’s still far from possible.

“The problem is that he does good things for us, but he can make horrible mistakes because he doesn’t know what it means to be human,” warned the expert.

He reiterated that the best training technologies are still unable to reproduce the way humans think. OpenAI is keen to reiterate that ChatGPT has no reasoning skills, but only the ability to quickly search for answers and construct them in a simulated way.

ChatGPT amid controversy

After hitting more than 100 million users in two months, ChatGPT has come under criticism from the social sectors. Professors and academics have been skeptical because of the abuses in scientific research. There are also some issues related to copyright and the set of incorrect answers given by the algorithm – which only deals with an information base until 2021.

The fact is that technology has moved the industry in the last couple of months. A Microsoft entered into a partnership that has raised $10 billion for the developers of ChatGPT, as well as enabling the Bing search engine integration it’s at Microsoft 365 (formerly Office Suite).

Google also doesn’t want to lag behind and has already announced the arrival of Bard. The conversation AI Google uses LaMDA as a starting point, but it also slipped right at launchWhat led to a write-down of the company’s shares in the market and a good deal of skepticism about the solution.

Like all AI-based technology, ChatGPT tends to make mistakes that can come from its database or misinterpretations. Furthermore, there is still no solution to incorporate bias, racism, sexism and other practices that are morally reprehensible, but end up being transferred from society to the bot.
