Before its premiere on Netflix, “Your Place or Mine” had already sparked a debate after Mila Kunis criticized the face of her husband Ashton Kutcher alongside Reese Witherspoon.
Its plot follows Debbie and Peter, best friends who have two completely different lifestyles. She lives with her son in Los Angeles and he is an eligible bachelor from New York.
Coincidentally, they switch houses (and lives) for a weekend, which will make them think about what they really want for their futures.
“Your Place or Mine” is now available on the streaming platform and its director, Aline Brosh McKenna has confessed that she was inspired by a true story to make this film.
The True Story Behind ‘Your Place or Mine’
In an interview with Vogue, “Your Place or Mine” director Aline Brosh McKenna revealed various details about this new romantic comedy starring Ashton Kutcher (who can also be seen in “Killers” on ViX+, the premium streaming service from ViX ) and Reese Witherspoon.
This is the first film in which he is working as a director, having previously only worked as a screenwriter. Among the films he has written are ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ (which Meryl Streep hated filming for this reason), ’27 Dresses’, ‘Cruella’, among others.
Brosh confessed that the plot of “Your Place or Mine” is so believable because it is inspired by a true story. She was the one who lived the experience that the Netflix movie revolves around, after swapping houses with a friend who had a lifestyle very different from her own:

The director went on to explain that while their house swap didn’t end in a romantic way like in ‘Your Place or Mine’, it was enough for her to imagine the perfect setting for a rom-com:
