Jason Momoa developed a great friendship with Emilia Clarke after they were together in “Game of Thrones” and they shared many passionate scenes between their characters as Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen.
But few know that Emilia Clarke wasn’t the first actress to bring life to the character of Daenerys Targaryen from the books, Tamzin Merchant was originally chosen and she recorded the entire first episode with Jason Momoa.
After years and meetings to make the “Game of Thrones” series a reality, David Benioff and Dan Weiss managed to negotiate with HBO to film the pilot in Northern Ireland and Morocco in 2009.

‘Game of Thrones’: Jason Momoa’s intimate scene made the set very excited
The 2020 book ‘Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon’ tells the behind-the-scenes story of how the medieval fantasy series based on the books by George RR Martin came to life.
In one of the segments, Martin himself reveals that the intimate scene after the wedding of Khal Drogo and Daenerys in the pilot was very different from the one that had already aired with Emilia Clarke.
Martin says that in the version with Emilia Clarke there is no doubt that the scene is a rape for Daenerys, but in the book and the pilot it is not, but rather it is depicted more as a seduction.
However, even if Merchant had not been replaced by Emilia Clarke, the scene would have had to be reshot because it was ruined when a horse on the set became agitated at seeing the actors naked.
According to Martin, the horse (which was supposed to be a mare in the story) saw Jason Momoa and Tamzin without clothes and his member started to grow.
And while it may seem funny, the experience wasn’t so good for Tamzin Merchant, as she confessed to Entertainment Weekly on January 28, 2021 that she was never convinced by the pilot.
Ultimately, the “Game of Thrones” pilot was not well received by HBO executives, and reruns were ordered to give it more scope and character development.
It was in this new shoot that Tamzin was replaced by Emilia Clarke and the familiar scene is the one that appears in the first chapter of ‘Game of Thrones’, now without the excited horse.
