76-year-old Steven Spielberg was offered to direct a series of cult films about Harry Potter, but in the end the director’s chair was alternately taken by Chris Columbus, who shot the first two films, Alfonso Cuaron, who took over the third picture, Michael Newell, who worked on the fourth part, and David Yates, who directed the saga from the fifth to the tenth film.
Spielberg’s reason for not working on Harry Potter was revealed in a dialogue with fellow filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli. According to Spielberg, such a project required full dedication, and he, in turn, was not ready to give up time that he could spend with the growing heirs.
Kate [Кэпшоу] and I began to create a family, and we began to have children. The choice that I had: to get a job and move to another country for four or five months, where I could not see my family every day … – the director recalled.
Spielberg hinted that “Harry Potter” — not the only project he didn’t take on.
There were a few films that I decided not to make. I gave up the first Harry Potter to spend the next year and a half with my family, my growing young children. So I sacrificed a great franchise,” he admitted.
Note that this year’s new semi-autobiographical film by Steven Spielberg “Fabelman” nominated for “Oscar”. And Michelle Williams, who played one of the main roles in it, claims to be the statuette in the Best Actress nomination.
