On October 23, 2020, the series that was supposed to be such a phenomenal and unexpected success was launched on the Netflix platform: Le Jeu de la Dame. Actress Anya Taylor-Joy plays Elizabeth Harmon, a very young girl in the first episode, who is already developing exceptional skills for playing chess.
The following episodes chronicle her apprenticeship and her burning desire to become the world’s greatest player in a 1950s and 1960s America that was not ready to see competition from female grandmasters. The young heroine will also have to fight alcohol and drug addiction to reach the top.
The series will be crowned with many awards, including two prestigious Golden Globe Awards: Best Mini-Series and Best Actress. If this worldwide success was able to breathe new life into this ancestral board game, several films have already used this theme as their main theme in the past.
