How to update LibreOffice on Windows to keep productivity software working safely

On Windows, it’s a free option for creating text, spreadsheets, and presentations LibreOffice, which brings together a complete suite of document production applications. To keep your software running smoothly, see how to update and configure your program to automatically check for updates.

If you happen to be using a corporate or multi-user computer, make sure you have permission to install programs and updates or are logged in as the machine’s administrator user. To update LibreOffice on Windows you also need to be connected to the Internet.

How to update LibreOffice on Windows

  1. Open LibreOffice;
  2. In the top bar, access Tools and click on Options;
  3. Select the Online Update option;
  4. Configure a periodicity to automatically check for updates;
  5. Click the Check Now button to manually check for updates;
  6. Select Install if a new update is available.



The option to update the software can be accessed from the Tools tab within any program, such as Writer, Draw or Impress, without the need to open general LibreOffice. The way to check for updates is the same for all apps in the package.

In case the automatic update is not available or if you prefer to reinstall LibreOffice in its latest version, click on “Download” to be redirected to the website and manually download the program.

Extension update

LibreOffice offers extra functionality through extensions that can be installed to facilitate your work in applications. If any of these features still aren’t working properly after updating your software, it’s worth checking for new extension updates.

  1. Access the Extension Manager in the Tools tab;
  2. Click Check for Updates;
  3. Click Install for available updates.
