Two and a half months after its first trailer, the live-action film adaptation of Masami Kurumada’s cult manga Knights of the Zodiac is revealed a little more thanks to a new teaser.
Directed by Tomasz Baginski (producer of The Witcher series on Netflix), the feature film is to be the first part of a saga consisting of 6 films, as already announced by Toei Animation producer Yoshi Ikezawa. The studio has big ambitions for this saga, which it has been developing for more than 10 years. The budget of the first opus is 60 million dollars.
In July last year, the producer said variety ” The Knights of the Zodiac manga was a huge success in North America, Latin America, Europe and China. So we have already established a fan base in many countries around the world. That’s why Sony Pictures contacted usthis.”
Then he added:The original manga has 28 comic volumes. The original anime series had 140 episodes, plus 30 or 40 sequels from the original comic. So that’s almost 200 episodes.
You can make a lot of movies with it. And after the success of Marvel, studios are looking for intellectual property that could lead to sequels like Harry Potter or Hunger Games. So far we’ve reviewed six films.“
