“We’re playing 17-year-olds and we’re almost 30, it’s a little weird.”
‘Sex Education’ actress Emma Mackey has spoken about the possibility of leaving behind her character, Maeve Wiley.
The Netflix teen comedy is in the middle of filming its fourth season, with Mackey placed in the background, accompanying her regular companions: Asa Butterfield (Otis), Ncuti Gatwa (Eric) and Aimee Lou Wood (Aimee), who enter this new environment left for them by the end of the third season.
Talking with total films on the role that changed his career, Mackey explained the drawbacks of playing a teenager on screenand the fact that most of his peers are in their “twenty many” or thirty years of age.
“It’s always complicated. It’s different when you play a character who is ‘stuck’ in time.. You know, we’re playing 17-year-olds and we’re almost 30, it’s a little weird,” the actress commented.
“It is a blessing because it has been a shuttle and it is something that has given us opportunities on many levels, but it is also something that I want to leave sweetly. Being happy that it exists, protecting it and enjoying the time in which it happened. But yes, I think it has to stop now.”
“We can go ahead and take what we’ve learned from ‘Sex Ed’ because it has literally been a school for all of us.”
“It’s wonderful to have had this education and to have gone through a ‘baptism by fire’. We have known a new world. I think it has made us stronger.”
Mackey, who will join her ‘Sex Education’ co-stars Gatwa and Connor Swindells in summer movie ‘Barbie’, also spoke about the cast: “We have really grown together and we have evolved and learned from each other in a very special way. A lot of people don’t get to experience that in their lifetime.”
In addition, he added: “It is so contained and so intense to shoot this type of content … We get excited when we think about how far we’ve come since we were 21 years old. and we did the first auditions.”
The first 3 seasons of ‘Sex Education’ are available among the Netflix series.
