Glorious sends off two players and facilitates the game of Cruz-Maltino, who scores twice in the second half
OR Basque recovered from the defeat against Fluminense and beat Botafogo 2-0, in Maracanã, for the postponed match of the 3rd round of the Brazilian championship. The goals were scored by Alex Teixeira and Pedro Raul, both in the final tournament. In the first half, Glorioso had Adryelson and Rafael sent off, which made life very difficult for the team in the classic.
With the victory, Vasco reaches 14 points and enters the G4 of the Carioca Championship, overtaking Volta Redonda. Botafogo are in second place, with 16 points.
A CLASSIC OF FRIENDSHIP?
The peaceful atmosphere of Vasco and Botafogo was left behind shortly after the ball rolled. Already with five minutes, Galarza and Adryelson got involved in a confusion, with the right of cursing and shoving. Both received a yellow card, but the Botafogo defender suffered the worst. Hanging, the player fouled Alex Teixeira on entering the box and was sent off, leaving Glorioso with one down.
FEAR
Philipe Sampaio came on in place of Marlon Freitas to rebuild the Botafogo defence. However, the defender only participated in 18 minutes of the game. The player passed out and had to call an ambulance. Sampaio regained consciousness shortly after, but was taken to hospital for further tests.
REPEAT MOVIE
With one more player, Vasco was much more dangerous and created good chances. When he struck for goal, goalkeeper Lucas Perri made some great saves. But when the goal was empty, Pedro Raul pulled through, wasting a great chance. After the move everyone thought of the maxim of football, of those who don’t do it, he ends up taking it. It happened in the derby against Fluminense, in which Cruz-Maltino failed to score when he was better.
VAR, NEW CONFUSION AND ANOTHER EXPULSION
Vasco continues to press and risks opening the scoring on a penalty. Puma Rodríguez readied the shot, but Joel Carli cut the ball at just the right moment. The referee ended up scoring the penalty but with the help of the VAR he got back on the decision but ended up seeing the move right back Rafael, from Botafogo attacked Barros, from Vasco. The Glorioso player ended up sent off and Cruz-Maltino now has two other players.
GOAL DO RELIVIO
With two more players, Vasco bets everything on Botafogo, who is brave, tries to defend himself as best he can, but chance betrays Glorioso. Puma Rodríguez crosses, the ball is deflected by Hugo and Alex Teixeira just manages to score with a header. The striker’s first goal in Rio de Janeiro since returning to Cruz-Maltino
THE LAW THAT NEVER WRONGS
Despite the advantage in the standings, Vasco continues to try to widen the scoreboard and gives space to Botafogo, scaring goalkeeper Halls. Cruz-Maltino surrounds the Botafogo area, but fails to be effective, but arrives on goal with a dead ball. Nenê took a classy corner kick and Pedro Raul scored with a header, to lift a weight off his back and demonstrate that the former’s law is one of the few that works in Brazil.
END OF FASTING
With the victory, Vasco concluded an uncomfortable fast of victories in the classics. Counting games against Flamengo, Fluminense and Botafogo, Cruz-Maltino have lost their last nine games.
