Morgan Freeman, in the footsteps of a new serial killer 28 years after ‘Seven’

Almost three decades after ‘Seven’, Morgan Freeman once again faces a ‘Ritual Killer’ in the trailer for his new film

The Ritual Killer‘ takes advantage of the rise of serial killers on the small and big screen (check out the best serial killer series on Netflix) to bring back the protagonist of one of the best thrillers of all time‘Seven’, David Fincher’s 1995 film.

‘Seven’ (or ‘Se7en’) is undoubtedly one of Brad Pitt’s best films, but this time we are talking about his other protagonist, Detective Somerset played by Morgan Freeman.

Freeman will investigate the steps of a new serial killer in ‘The Ritual Killer’ (formerly known as ‘Muti’)a film directed by a regular collaborator of the actor in recent years, George Gallo. Director and interpreter have coincided in ‘The Poison Rose’, ‘The Last Big Scam’ and ‘A Night of Vengeance’, and now they will join forces again (along with a cast that is completed with Cole Hauser, Peter Stormare and Julie Lott) in a film that has just released a trailer and that will be released next March 10th on US VOD platforms.

The trailer opens with a statement from Professor Mackles (Freeman), which offers a good hint of what awaits us in the film: “There is a fine line between sanity and insanity that is endemic to all cultures.“.

There’s a serial killer on the loose, and it seems that has a particular fixation for certain parts of the human body to use them in dark rituals. Detective Lucas Boyd (Hauser), is after him, but to catch him, he would first have to understand what is at stake and who is behind it. To do that, you’ll need the African culture professor played by Freeman.

The killer wants to perform a macabre and powerful ritual called “Muti”. “I take power, I become power,” Mackles reads in a bloody inscription on the wall. What was initially considered a localized incident soon begins to spread across Europe with other people missing. How long will it be before those who bear the killer’s mark become victims? “Be careful, it could come for you”.
