Prime Video: Amazon launches an expanded universe after the end of its longest running series, bringing back the original stars!

Detective series Harry Bosch is a must watch on the Prime Video streaming service. With its 7 seasons that ran from 2014 to 2021, it is Amazon’s longest-running original series to date. Last year, Harry Bosch also got a spin-off, Bosch: Legacy, which will soon receive a second season on Freevee, the platform’s free service. But Amazon isn’t going to stop there and is now looking at something bigger, namely the entire universe of the Harry Bosch series!

As reported by Variety and MoviePilot, two new spin-offs are planned and will focus on the two characters from the Michael Connelly books that the series is inspired by: Jerry Edgar and Renee Ballard. The former was played by Jamie Hector – who is set to reprise his role – for seven seasons of the original series. The second is known only to fans of books, which has not yet appeared on the screen.

In the first spin-off series, Bosch’s former partner is “interviewed by an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami,” according to the official synopsis. There he finds himself on the dark side of the city, and his mysterious past follows him.

In the second show, which will see Renee Ballard on screen for the first time, the detective is in charge of the LAPD’s new covert division. Renee will be dedicated to bringing credibility to the department and fairness to the community. If Harry Bosch was her mentor, she mostly does things her own way, solving cases in unconventional ways and dealing with the challenges of being a woman in the police force.

To recall, the parent series follows Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), a homicide detective in Los Angeles who, at the start of the show, faces trial when he is accused of murdering a would-be murderer in cold blood. Despite this highly publicized case, he continues to investigate.

So it seems that the expanded universe of the popular series is in vogue: three new Dexter series were also announced this week. As for Harry Bosch, it is not yet known exactly when these new productions will see the light of day or if they will be broadcast on Prime Video or Freevee. But in the meantime, the complete original series and the first season of Bosch: Legacy are available to watch on both platforms.
