Aladdin: This iconic character from the original Disney shows up well in the movie, but not in the way expected

Directed by Guy Ritchie in 2019 and broadcast tonight on the M6, Disney Studios’ Aladdin takes us back to the enchanted alleyways of Agrabah, almost 20 years after the animated film that inspired a generation of early audiences. 90s.

This time with a solid cast (notably Will Smith, Mena Massoud, and Naomi Scott), this new feature film more or less follows the same plot as the previous film, but still exhibits some differences from the latter.

For example, as fans have noticed, the character of Iago – that sly parrot who served alongside the Grand Vizier Jafar, and who had us dying of laughter in the 1992 cartoon – looks noticeably different in Guy Ritchie’s film.

Indeed, unlike the original Iago, who perfectly appreciated the parrot’s plight with iconic lines and hilarious impersonations of Jasmine or Jafar with the voice of the excellent Eric Metayer, this new bird barely speaks a few words throughout the film.

Although it is produced in computer generated images, it is presented in a much more realistic way, which definitely suits the general aspect of the feature film better.

Moreover, as we see in the final part of the story, it also plays a new (and rather surprising) role in the outcome:

Jafar, instead of turning into a giant snake to confront Aladdin as he did in the animated film, here decides to send his parrot in his place, transforming it into a monstrous giant bird that chases Aladdin across the rooftops. Agrabah.

Aside from these differences regarding Iago, fans may notice a few other variations between the 1992 film and the 2019 film. In Guy Ritchie’s feature film, Jafar is sent to prison before being delivered by Iago, Aladdin is allowed a small new dance scene and Jasmine sings her own song. The latter happens to Sultan at the end of the film.
