Warning, spoilers. The following article outlines the main plot elements of “H” as well as its ending.
On October 24, 1998, France discovered H on Canal+. Between lightness and absurdity, the French sitcom, now legendary, is enjoyable and quickly finds success.
Created by Kader Aoun, Xavier Matthieu and Eric Judor, it follows the daily life of a nurse, stretcher and switchboard operator in the orthopedic ward of a hospital on the outskirts of Paris, whose professional conscience is absolutely not a priority. . Politically incorrect jokes, tasteless jokes and basic medical errors: it’s all there!
But H is above all the series that made the duo of Jamel Debussy and Eric Da Ramsay famous. Iconic, considered one of the best French comedy series. Rhythmic and extraordinary, its repetitions continue to make people laugh even today. We have to admit, we never tire of Jamel, Sabre, and Aimee and their misadventures—eccentric and mythical—alongside Bea, Clara, and Professor Strauss!
On April 20, 2002, after 71 episodes of 22 minutes, the doors of the Raymond Poincare Hospital closed on April 20, 2002. Season 4 episode 11, “The Purgatory Story”, was the end of the sitcom. Here is his resume.
Dismissal and poisoning
Although Jamel (Jamel Debussy) is a guide at the Grivin Museum, he is surprised by Clara (Sophie Munnicott). He tricked her into pretending he was sick and too contagious to work in a hospital. She warns him that she will receive a “letter” on Monday.
At Sabri’s (Ramzy Bedia) bar, Le Barbylone, the latter opens its themed week: this time, Italy is in the spotlight – although the new Asian-style decor leaves Aimee (Eric Judor) about to head to London for the weekend. , confused.
Once Aimee leaves, Sabri is serving her only two remaining customers, Clara and Professor Strauss (Jean-Luc Bideau), when Jamel arrives. He receives his “letter” and is furious: he has been fired and openly attacks Clara and the professor who signed the letter. Enraged, he even threatens them with death, in front of several customers, then leaves.

Next, Sabri serves his new specialty: pasta. However, when Clara and Strauss start eating, they quickly feel sick and ask what’s in her recipe. Sabri explains to them that he wanted to make pasta with carbonari, then with “rebeubbiata”, but finally with “morora” – in other words, “death by rats”. Poisoned, Clara and Strauss collapse…

The last judgment
… and will end up in purgatory! Saint-Pierre (Richard Bohringer) and his friend Miquelon (Richard Guede) face a moment of final judgment: will they go to heaven or hell? Saint-Pierre, unsympathetic, lists their actions.

Then we learn that Professor Strauss is not actually called that: his real name is Eugene Shapulier. She was the real-life housekeeper of Professor Strauss, whom she killed with a hot iron in his sleep before stealing his identity. He clarifies that it’s not his fault and he didn’t do it on purpose: he needed the money to finance his trafficking of Tamil children. With such a note, Saint-Pierre calls Lucifer (Joey Starr), who arrives in purgatory to pick up the professor (or Eugene).

Meanwhile, at the bar, Sabre waits for Clara and Strauss to wake up, believing them to be playing. When Jamel returns, he finds them dead. They both don’t understand what happened and Jamel starts to panic because he threatened them in front of other customers. Only one solution: hide the bodies before burial. Head to Aimee’s apartment, gone for the weekend.
After breaking down the door to a friend’s apartment – while Saber had the key – the duo try to hide the bodies as best they can, especially when they’re surprised by the building’s concierge, who doesn’t suspect anything.

Back in Purgatory, it’s Clara’s turn to walk in front of Saint-Pierre. His record is no better: alcoholism, pornography, fellatio, sewing… as the saint says: “It smells like hell.” Clara pleads with him and Saint-Pierre makes her a contract, which she immediately signs to be his “right-hand man”. He quickly realizes that she will be more of his minion, doing the paperwork, ironing, and coffee.

Never two without three
Aimee ends up coming home earlier than expected and thinks she’s been robbed. He is waiting for the police. But when the officers arrive, he finds the bodies of Clara and Strauss in the wardrobe, the latter’s head sticking out like a sculpture placed on the furniture.

He then tries to escape the two police officers present and immediately fire them. He then goes to Sabre’s bar, completely stunned, and tells his two friends what happened. While Jamel is trying to hide, Sabry makes the mistake of calling Jamel a “murderer”: Aimee then realizes that they are the ones who put the bodies in her house. However, in distress, he used Saber’s pasta and even tasted it: Aimee in turn crumbles.

Arriving in purgatory, the young man learns that he is dead and does not believe: he has not experienced this in 32 years and begins to rage until he learns that he will now be judged. After watching several tapes of his actions on earth, it is highly unlikely that heaven does not seem relevant. Bea (Catherine Benguig) and Charlotte (Linda Hardy) also appear last in these flashback videos.

On Earth, Sabre and Jamel work to get rid of the three bodies, which are then placed like wax statues in the Grevin Museum.
We’re coming back!
In purgatory, Aimée is surprised to see the angels in the dressing room and watch them without their knowledge, Saint-Pierre can’t take it anymore and wants to hasten the judgment. At the same time, Lucifer has returned Strauss, who annoys everyone in Hell: no one can stand him, not even Hitler, not even Stalin, who is covered in bruises because of him, not even Attila. Since Strauss, Aimee, and Clara are only causing trouble, Saint-Pierre decides to send them to Earth, much to the three mishaps’ delight.

The plot then backtracks and we return to the moment when Jamel threatens Strauss and Clara before the latter eat the rat-killed pasta. This time, Aimee returns to eat with them before leaving for the weekend and offers to make peace with everyone. When they are about to eat all the pasta, a blue light appears, freezing them for a few seconds.

Once things are back to normal, the group finally doesn’t want to eat pasta anymore, prompting Sabrey to offer them dessert instead: “a dessert of peace” as Aimee says, which everyone but Sabree begins to taste. Alas, even there the recipe contains rat poison: it is “Tirami-mouse”, as Sabri proudly declares! Aimee, Clara and Strauss break out again, this time with Jamel in tow. Sabry still believes that everyone is faking and imitating them, pretending to fall apart. Then the traditional blooper of the episode begins. Finally, H.
