Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie’s (Bella Ramsey) journey continues in The Last of Us, and it takes a completely different turn in episode 6, titled “Kin.” This chapter picks up three months after the deaths of Henry (Lamar Johnson) and Sam (Kevon Woodard) in episode 5.

Joel and Ellie eventually arrive in Jackson, Wyoming and reunite with Tommy (Gabriel Luna), Joel’s brother. He leaves the Fireflies and joins the real community, where he meets his wife Maria (Rutina Wesley), who is expecting a child.

Before the next stop, Joel and Ellie enjoy a well-deserved dinner. And that’s when a young teenager surprises another young woman who spies on him from afar. And fans immediately assumed it was a reference to the famous character from the video game franchise.

Does Dinah Appear in The Last of Us Episode 6?

For some fans of The Last of Us, there’s no doubt that the young girl watching Eli from afar as he eats is Dinah. This is a character featured in a video game The Last of Us: Part II And who becomes Eli’s companion.

It must be said that the embodiment of the chosen actress, who was given the “staring girl” (“The girl who watches, in French) is very similar to Dina. Her role is played by Paolina Van Cleef, a young talent whose career is just beginning and who will be found in the series Night Agent in March on Netflix- on

Fans of The Last of Us have been sharing their reactions on social media and sharing their excitement for the inaugural season episode of this important character from the second game.

Translation: “Did we just look at Dinah?”

Some fans noticed a detail in the brief appearance of what could be Dinah watching Ellie eat. For them, this sequence is a reference to a conversation between Eli and Dina discussing their first “meeting”.

Translation: “Remember when Dinah told Eli that she saw him steal all the food when she got to Jackson’s and now watch when they see each other. It’s too much!”

The public talked so much about this appearance on social networks that the phrase “Was that Dina” (“Was that Dina”, French. A trending topic on Twitter and that it reached the ear of Neil Druckman, creator of the video game franchise and co-showrunner of the HBO series. The latter thought it was good that fans noticed the wink.

Translation: “Ahahaha, I love you all.”

So, have we really looked at Diana? Nothing is less certain. In The Official Podcast of The Last of Usin which Neil Druckman, Craig Mazin (the other co-showrunner), and Troy Baker (Joel’s original translator in the video games) narrate the episodes each week. “It’s ambiguous. Someone is watching Ellie. And in theory it could be someone… or not. We’ll find out someday.”

But Craig Mazzini returns to a passage from The Last of Us: Part II that a fan pointed out above that he believes is similar to what we see in Episode 6. To which Neil Druckman replies that “That doesn’t mean it’s Dina, but it doesn’t mean it isn’t.”.

Therefore, the two co-showrunners allowed the character to remain a mystery. We’ll definitely have to wait for season 2 to find out if we’ve had our eye on Dina. It remains to be seen if the series will cast the same young actress Paolina Van Cleef for the role, or if actress and YouTuber Casquina Caradonna, who voiced Dinah in the game, will move on to the role in the second season.

One thing is for sure, Dinah will not be played by actress Shannon Woodward, who voiced Dinah and performed the character in the video game. The latter, who suddenly doesn’t look like Dinah, is too old for her role in the HBO series.

The Last of Us series is available on Prime Video.
