Since the last attempt to bring in Mike Mignola hell boy on screen, starring David Harbor as the title character, earned $55 million worldwide (against a $50 million budget), it’s perhaps surprising to learn that Mignola and others are looking to try again. But it’s true!
Initially reported by discuss cinema and since it was confirmed by Expirationthe last film will adapt the comic the crooked man. Mignola and Christopher Golden are responsible for the script and, perhaps in a more intriguing development, Brian Taylor aka half of Crank The Neveldine/Taylor duo is on board to direct.
The story will see Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent stranded in rural Appalachia in the 1950s. ‘Crooked Man.
In the comics, The Crooked Man was an 18th-century war profiteer and miser named Jeremiah Witkins who was hanged for his crimes but returned from Hell as the region’s resident devil.
No one says yet who Hellboy will be, but the plan is to start shooting next month in Bulgaria.
Millennium Films, which made the latest outing, is hoping this news will finally launch a franchise.
