It got more viewers than ‘La casa del dragón’ and broke records on its platform in the US. Now it comes to our country to expand its success.
Success in testosterone-filled film franchises like “Rocky” and “The Expendables” had kept Sylvester Stallone away from television while other fifth-year stars made the leap from film to series. Until now. The actor and eternal rival of Schwarzenegger in the 80s stars in ‘Tulsa King’, an equally testosteronic fiction that premiered with great success in the United States last November and which will soon be able to be seen in Spain by SkyShowtime from February 28, the day the new platform will begin its journey here. Stallone breaks into the series as a mobster.
The title of the series refers to the mission that lies ahead of the protagonist of the story. Sylvester Stallone gives life to Dwight Manfredi, nicknamed The General, a man who is released from prison after 25 years imprisoned for a crime and, then, claims the Invernizzi family, the Italian-American mobsters in New York to which he belongs, the position in the organization you think is right for you. However, that is not what he receives: the Invernizzi entrust him to go to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to extend the control of the mafia. And although, at first, for The General this will be little more than an exile, he will soon find himself wanting to become the king of Tulsa using all the weapons at his disposal: extortion, beatings, beatings and, of course, weapons. Along the way, he will have to rebuild his life after prison and will try to resume his relationship with his daughter and his grandchildren.
The ‘Tulsa King’ proposal, with the charismatic Stallone at the helm, quickly became a hit on Paramount+, where it is broadcast in the US, and broke records. Its first episode, in addition to the platform, could be seen on the Paramount Network cable channel, where it got 3.7 million viewers. This placed her as the best premiere of a linear cable series, above ‘The House of the Dragon’. And not only that, Paramount+ recorded another record: the premiere of ‘Tulsa King’ led to the highest number of subscriptions to the platform in a single daywhich led the company to make the decision to renew it for a second season immediately.
“With the combination of the incomparable Sylvester Stallone and Taylor Sheridan’s dark comedy spin on our beloved gangster genre, we’ve delivered our latest hit with ‘Tulsa King.’ The Paramount+ premiere helped boost user registration, leveraging viewership from ‘Yellowstone,'” Paramount+’s Tanya Giles said in the renewal statement. The other man he refers to the creator of this series and the new golden boy of North American televisionalso responsible for other Paramount+ hits such as ‘Yellowstone’ and its prequels ‘1883’ and ‘1923’, as well as ‘Mayor of Kingstown’, starring Jeremy Renner.
All these fictions by Taylor Sheridan, with universes that combine character drama, action and thumping, power struggles and cowboy hats, will also arrive in Spain with SkyShowtime, which draws from the catalog of the North American platforms Paramount+ and Peacock (since it is a joint venture between their owners, Paramount Global and ViacomCBS), as well as fiction from the Showtime cable channel. Titles like ‘Law and Order’, ‘American Gigolo’, ‘Halo’, ‘The Rising’, ‘Vampire Academy’ or ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ can be seen in Spain on SkyShowtime since its launch, as well as ‘The Offer’, long-awaited series about the back room of the movie ‘The Godfather’.
